When I first checked this out from the library I wanted to read it while having a lovely bowl of soup. I quickly gave up on that as it just wasn't convenient. I ended up reading this over the course of weeks... well over a month really. Between life, returning it for another patron request (and waiting to get it back), and reading other books whose deadlines were up.... it just kept getting interrupted and put on the back burner. A Spoonful of Murder was actually an enjoyable read, but I didn't really have the opportunity to learn that until recently when I could finally focus on reading it in larger portions.

Lucky has returned to Snowflake, Vermont (isn't that a cozy sounding place?) to run her parents' place, By the Spoonful Soup Shop, after they pass. She still grieving and hasn't even quite decided if she wants to keep it when a murder takes place and her chef is arrested. Of course, as is often the case in cozies, Lucky doesn't believe Sage (the chef) is guilty. I did consider the murderer a possible suspect (among others), but I didn't have any strong urges to shout at Lucky, "No! THAT'S the killer!"

As usual with cozies, Lucky is surrounded by several "cozy" secondary characters including her grandfather, staff, loyal customers, family friends, potential romantic interest, and even (maybe) childhood bestie.  I'm sure we'll meet them all again in the next book, A Broth of Betrayal (due out April 2013).

(Read in 2012!)
