Why this book?:

I was at work, going to lunch, and I didn't have the forethought to bring a book to read with me to work.  So I checked one out that I had checked out previously but hadn't gotten around to.

Comments:

I don't know if I read the blurb for this at some point, but if I had it had completely escaped my memory.  So I was very surprised to find there is a walking talking skeleton in this book!  Forget ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and zombies.  A skeleton!  Like Skull Boy on Ruby Gloom! Or like you might see on Halloween.  Perhaps you can tell I was a bit excited by this new paranormal twist.

Anyway...

Georgia has moved into her parents' (who are currently on sabbatical) house with her teenage daughter.  She has a new adjunct position at the local university.  She takes her daughter to a nearby comic/anime convention and brings Sid, the household skeleton (dressed up) with.  While there he recognizes someone from his past.  From there the story moves through the past and present as they work to find out who Sid was, what happened to him, and figuring out who killed the professor Sid recognized in this modern day.  Throughout, the story of how Sid became part of the family unfolds.

I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the second book in the series, The Skeleton Takes a Bow (due to be released this September 2014).

  2. Likewise. It took awhile to actually start it, but it was worth it.
