Obtained: Library "Book club kit" book
Why this book?:
I was told it was a good book for seniors, and the activities person at
the place where this book discussion group was being started agreed to it.
Comments:
A co-worker happened to mention that this was written by the same guy that created the A Christmas Story movie.
I hadn't even started this but I immediately had a strong dislike for
it. I am NOT a fan of that movie. But I was supposed to be leading
this discussion (my first), and I needed to read the book to be sure
everything went okay.
If I had realized this book is a series of short stories, I could have
spread it out more. But alas, I crammed it into about 3 days.
Here and there I found a part that amused me. Like when they are at the
fair on the Whip and the vomit is being described. The description
created such an image... Anyway, there were perhaps one or two other
highlights which I can no longer remember.
But overall, the book has that same feel as the movie. That same reminiscent voice. If you like it, then you should enjoy this. I do not and while this was tolerable, it was far from a favorite.
This is the same book club you've mentioned before, right? How did the discussion go?
ReplyDeleteThis is a different one that I was supposed to get started for work. It didn't even meet! They were apparently getting some staffing issues straightened out and didn't know about the discussion planned. I read it for no reason!!!
DeleteWe going to try again this month with Me Before You by JoJo Moyes... which is supposed to be a great discussion book... we'll see.
