Life:

We celebrated Thanksgiving Day (at my uncle's house), for which I actually put together a dish (which I NEVER do)... a veggie platter that looked liked a Turkey (thanks to Pinterest and the blog it originally came from).

I also finally joined Goodreads!  For now you have to be on Goodreads to see my profile.  I might make that more public once I get a feel for the site.  As it is, the reason I took so long getting on there was because I couldn't get my location not to show when I first tried a few years ago.  This time I could hide it, so here I am!!!

What I've Read in the Past Week:

I haven't gotten much reading done this past week.  I finished Finger Lickin' Dead (Memphis BBQ Mystery, Bk 2) by Riley Adams, and that is about it.

Oh, and various children's books.

What I've Posted in the Past Week:

  • Oh, No! by Candice Fleming; Illustrated by Eric Rohmann
  • Shiver Me Timbers!: Pirate Poems & Paintings by Douglas Florian; Illustrated by Robert Neubecker
  • Little Nelly's Big Book by Pippa Goodhart; Illustrated by Andy Rowland
  • Time (Out) for Monsters! by Jean Reidy; Illustrated by Robert Neubecker
The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag (Flavia de Luce Mystery, Bk 2) by Alan Bradley; Read by Jayne Entwistle

Finger Lickin' Dead (Memphis BBQ, Bk 2) by Riley Adams

Currently Reading:

I'm still working on Beyond Courage : The Untold Story of Jewish Resistance During the Holocaust by Doreen Rappaport; Performed by Jeff Crawford and Emily Beresford

I haven't started a print book yet.

Upcoming:

The next Cozy Cull book.  I'm currently debating between:
  1. Clobbered by Camembert (Cheese Shop Mystery, Bk 3) by Avery Aames
  2. Sketch Me If You Can (Portrait of Crime Mystery, Bk 1) by Sharon Pape
  3. The Diva Takes the Cake (Domestic Diva Mystery, Bk 2) by Krista Davis
The first option has a Winter Wonderland faire, so it's the right season, but I felt kinda ambivalent about the first two books in that series.
The second sounds interesting, and it's a book I bought new, so it'll have that new book feel.
The third option is out of season, but I really enjoyed the first book in the series.

Any preferences?

I have either the next Three Pines/Chief Inspector Armand Gamache Mystery audiobook OR the next Flavia de Luce Mystery audiobook once I finish Beyond Courage.  Both of these choices work for the Canadian Book Challenge.

I have more children's books to post (Seems I ALWAYS have more to post).  I'm running out of titles for these posts.  Any tips?

  1. Oh No! and Little Nelly's Big Book have been two of my favorites recently. I think if more people read the latter all the way through, we'd be seeing it on a lot of recommended lists.

    1. I really enjoyed both of them. Oh No! was such a great read-aloud. And the ending of Little Nelly's Big Book is the best part!

  4. Beyond Courage seems like an intense book.
I'd vote for The Diva Takes the Cake

    Have a great reading week!

    1. It is an intense book, especially considering it's considered juvenile nonfiction.

So far you're the only one that votes, so that's likely to be the book I read.

  5. I bet your veggie turkey was a hit! I'm wild about Pinterst, it's so inspiring! (and intimidating, lol)

Beyond Courage sounds like something I'd really like a lot. I hope you're enjoying it!

    Have a great week!

    1. It was a hit with some family. But other family members didn't see what it is. My grandmother complemented my "presentation." Then had to be shown all the features before she recognized it as a turkey.

I am enjoying it, but I think I may need to supplement it with the print copy. It switches between statistics and individual stories. The statistics can be difficult to follow if you aren't completely focused while listening.

  7. Hi there Jo, Beyond Courage looks like a pretty powerful read. It reminded me a bit of the Paul Janeczko novel in verse that I've read a few months back: Requiem: Poems from the Terezin Ghetto. I enjoyed looking at some of your children's book titles as well, I shall look for "Oh No!" as I am a fan of Eric Rohmann. :) Enjoy the rest of your reading week!

    1. Requiem sounds intriguing. I hadn't heard of it before, though Beyond Courage has mentioned poetry written and quoted bits that were very powerful. I hope you do try Oh, No!; it's a great book and the illustrations are wonderful. =)

  8. Congrats on signing up at GoodReads. I'm still avoiding social outlets. I know me. I'll stay on there and never get off. ;)

    1. I know what that's like. Although I have all these Social Networks, I don't get on them often. When I do, though, it's an all day thing. I get nothing accomplished.
