First, sorry about the cover being blurry. I could only find the correct pic in a smaller size and when I made it bigger... Well that's what happened. Anyway.
I was familiar with Jackson Galaxy from his television show on Animal Planet, My Cat from Hell, when I saw this audiobook come through my department. I considered it, but ended up passing. Then my grandmother gave me a page from a magazine with some animal books she was interested in, and this was on it. Again, I considered it and decided to pass. Then I was checking it in and... fine, I'll read it already.
It was interesting. The language was a bit distracting, especially as this was in audio. I'd be pulling up for gas, and he'd start F this and that, with kids in a nearby car staring, and I couldn't get that the car off fast enough. Beyond that, there wasn't quite as much about how Benny (the cat) influenced his life as there was about what a mess he was, but that didn't bother me as much as it apparently did some. And there are tips recapped at the end (they are kind of scattered throughout the book, but this makes them more obvious).
I don't regret reading this, but I would have rathered less of the poor language, or perhaps it would have been better to try in print. And I will keep watching the show.
It's like you were being stalked by a book! (lol) You know what they say, third time is a charm. Too bad about the language though. For that reason and the fact I read romance or books with romance (ish) scenes, I never formed the habit of audio books playing in the car. My kids are now older (two are adults), so I guess I could, but my youngest one would NOT appreciate me sharing. ;)
ReplyDeleteI won't read romance in audio. The only time in the past was Luanne Rice's True Blue, which as I recall didn't go into much detail, but could be mushy. But I WILL NOT now. I've try to stick with mysteries and nonfiction in audio.
ReplyDeleteActually, I just started an audio by David Baldacci (funnily enough it's also called True Blue) that I believe I got from you once upon a time. Not sure I'm liking it, though.
You've read other Baldacci books?
DeleteNo. This is the first. I'm only on the first disc, and I think the narrator sounds more spy novel than thriller, so... We'll see how it goes after I've gotten a bit further into it.
DeleteAh, if you are already a fan, then you'd probably enjoy this one. For first timers, it's not his best. I think old timers would agree too. The series I recommend (on audio) is his Camel Club books. Those were, in my opinion, OMG good. The books just kept getting better and better.
