Why These Books?:
I'd been eyeing them for awhile now, but I needed a comic/graphic novel for the Summer Reading Bingo, and then the second volume (luckily) worked for Historical Fiction...

My apologies in advance for the lack of complete sentences.
Comments:
Interesting. Dramatic. Fun to read the Jazz Age language. Also
secret societies, a down-and-out detective, a fantastical and popular
adventurer/professor.
It took some time for me to follow since it switched between the
characters before I knew who they were and seemed at first like
different story lines. I adjusted once I realized how they connected.
Quite a bit of mysticism and such involved - something I hadn't expected
at first but actually turned out to be a major part of the plot.
I wouldn't mind reading more of Slampyak's work. In fact, I've already begun reading Savage (a vampire hunter in the Wild West). I'm especially interested in more of the Jazz Age Chronicles. Unfortunately, it seems I've missed them, and I can't find them in a published version.
