Why this book?:
I saw it somewhere (Wowbrary I think) and thought it sounded interesting.
Comments:
Young Elsie's mother has passed (of illness) and her immigrant father has been wrongly taken in for murder. She finds herself on the streets - but not alone. For she has managed to make her way in with the newsboys of the "yellow boy papers." Just in time for the strike of 1899 (which I knew nothing about).
I like Elsie and her newfound friend Grin (Henry "Hank" Grinnan "Grin"). I liked the positive message about speaking up. And the historical information scattered throughout. It's not uber-exciting, but it is interesting and quick (I started and finished it in one night).
