I re-read the 1st book in the Dark Legacy series, Copper Beach, to prepare myself; then I read this one.  I like the characters, the story, etc.  But after the Arcane trend of story lines passing contemporary, historical, futuristic, it's taking quite a bit for me to adjust to series within one time frame.  And speaking of Arcane, they come up toward the end of the book, but they were previously unknown to these characters.  Just to give some context if you've been reading that series.

For the series, now that I'm settling in, three sibs have a "dark legacy" of strong talent connected to even stronger crystals - referred to as the Phoenix Crystals - as the result of a back story concerning their father and some of his associates filled with intrigue, backstabbing, etc.  In Copper Beach you meet Sam who pairs up with Abby.  In Dream Eyes you meet Judson who pairs with Abby's friend Gwen.  I assume in the next book we'll meet sister Emma. (Alas, she can't pair up with the women's pal Nick cuz he's gay... I suspect the male lead will be her father's rival's son).

Anyway, for this particular book, Judson has had some rough stuff happen, and it's effected his dreams.  Who better to help with that than "Dream Eyes" Gwen who can see things in auras and can help fix dreams.  Too bad Judson's pride stands in the way.  In the meantime he's helping track down who murdered Gwen's friend and mentor.  With serial killers, paranormal weapons, and being the strangers in a small town (with a small town mentality), this isn't easy.  I absolutely DID NOT guess the killer/killers.  He/she/they didn't even bleep on my radar.

  1. Again, thank you for posting this. I'm on book three of the Cat & Bones series. Not sure how many there are, but it's not enough to last long. I'm buzzing through these audios. I'm still stuck on the paranormal/fantasy romance (ish) genre. I've caught up on a couple of series that I've been wanting to since forever, but totally forgot about this author's Arcane Society. That will be my next step. I'll also look for this series. :)
