Ideas I'm considering for Books to the Rescue

I've been wanting to do another giveaway (I meant to do one on my b-day but then everything was going on and it didn't happen).  And I've got all these cozy books that I just don't want to part with without reading.  But I haven't been reading them because lately the only cozies I read are library copies.  So I thought... What if I do a "Cozy Cull"?  Like I'll announce on the "It's Monday!" meme post what the book for that week will be, post my thoughts on it Tuesday, and pick a winner on Wednesday (Schedule flexible to change as this is still mostly in the idea stage).  Of course this depends on me: 1) Reading one of my own cozies every week, and 2) Being able to afford the regular postage.  So any thoughts?  Are there enough cozy readers that also visit this blog?  I think I'm going to try starting with Die Buying by Laura DiSilverio.

I've seen quite a few blogs take up a schedule when it comes to posting.  One day is set for a review and another for something else (a recap, or a discussion post, etc.).  This would help with consistency, that's for sure.  Maybe I'd do the Monday meme and then a review another day.  Would weeks that I read more make up for the weeks I read hardly anything?  (I can't believe I just wrote that.  I used to read a book a day.  Every other day on a bad week.)  What do you think?  Would you like having set days to "stop by" here?

And finally (for now)... I'd like to do some discussion posts but... what hasn't already been covered on some other blog?  Every once and a while I'll get an idea, but it's already dissipated by the time I'm on Blogger and have time to write.  Any suggestions for topics that you think you'd like discussed here?  One I do remember is how books came to the rescue for me and what they mean to you.  Sound interesting?  Or trite?

  1. I try to read your blog as you post them. I have google reader set up so everytime you add a post I get it. I am always game for giveaways. I am a huge cozy fan. I don't have time to add to my blog so I like to read others. Books have been my life getaway for reasons different then yours but the same in some ways.

    1. Thanks for the feedback. I wondered what happened to you! I'm glad to see you're still "around." I think the reasons I need books have changed somewhat over the years, but I haven't stopped needing them.

  2. Your weekly giveaway sounds very generous!
I have recently starting using a schedule but I don't use so much for having set days for certain posts except for memes. More for myself to have a roughly equal number of posts per week. :)
    Some great ideas here!

    1. I'm glad you stopped by. I'm still playing with the schedule idea. I just don't know how it would work for me. My current problem is posting several posts together just before the Monday meme. I'd like to spread my posts out.

  3. I think the book giveaways will open up your readership and put you closer to bloggers/readers who like the same books you do. My offer stands with helping to support your giveaway plans. Well, until the end of the year. By then, I better be done with reviewing. ;) None are cozy though.

I totally get you about the reading thing. In fact, I think we've discussed it on a couple of occasions. I'm forcing myself to get these Vine books read and reviewed. No more excuses. And no more writing until they're done. Well, unless it's writing a review.

As far as scheduled posts, other than the Monday reading meme, I never could get into weekly posts and I tried. What would happen is I'd grow bored and stop. So, good luck there. As a reader, I'll read whatever you post. :) I have your blog posts arriving in my email box. So I'm set no matter what you decide!

    1. ::sheepish:: I meant to respond to that offer. Really. I will, too. I think I'm going to start with the cozies for now and see where it goes from there. I'm kinda nervous about what kind of response I'll get.

I've been including that "obtained" thing in each of my posts, and I noticed, over and over, "library copy," "library copy," etc. Meanwhile I have boxes of cozies with the other books downstairs, and cozies piled at the foot of my bed, and cozies on the stairs... I'm hoping this will make a dent.

The scheduling thing seems to work for others so I thought it worth considering. I don't have any definite plans at this point.

    2. I think I understand where you are going with this and if so, it's the same reason I won't have a giveaway on my blog. I'll be done with the ARCs by the end of December or pretty darn close to it. I don't want 2012 to end without having something to show for it. :) January 2013 will be a fresh start for me. (I hope.)

I'll keep my fingers crossed with the scheduling thing. I was always too A.D.D. to be consistent. Fortunately, you don't have the same issue. :)

BTW, let me know about Angel's Ink!

    3. I don't want it back... I'm trying to get books out, not in. You can do what you'd like with it.

How did it end for you, btw? You said you liked the start and felt bogged down in the middle (paraphrasing)... what about the end?

    4. Don't be disappointed in me, but I didn't make it. Sorry...

    5. Naw. To each their own. That's why I'm so hesitant to give recommendations.
