Some more romance...

The Best Laid Plans by Sarah Mayberry (personal copy)

Alexandra is a lawyer who's always wanted children and to be loved by someone she loves.  Then she realizes her chances are cut down now that she's let life get past her, and she's considering a sperm bank when...

Ethan is a marriage-shy lawyer who would have liked kids but has given up on the dream.  That's all he is until a couple slips make him realize co-worker Alex is about to make a huge mistake (in his eyes) during a vulnerable point.  And he decides he has a better solution.

The story was nice.  Sometimes the characters seemed a bit, um, dramatic?  Oh, the pain! My world as I know it has ended! Never ever again!  But they were still likable, and I still enjoyed the book.

Like No Other Lover (Pennyroyal Green, Bk 2) by Julie Anne Long (personal copy)

I wasn't sure if I liked Cynthia Brightly at first.  I was sure there had to be a redeeming quality and I just hadn't seen it yet.  She just seemed so materialistic and superficial.  But as the story progressed she was more likable.  I believe the reader is told it's because she's actually kind if practical.  My feelings tend to say the shift is more because you get a better understanding of her desperation and motivation and thought process.  Whatever the case, I'm greatly relieved she became more likable.  In the end it wasn't a fantastic story, but I enjoyed it well enough.  And I'm curious about other books in the series.

    1. I may have been feeling a bit dramatic myself while writing this.
