I haven't done a Teaser Tuesday since September of 2010.  It really has been a LONG time.  But here we go.

This is from an audiobook, so I just took it from where I'm at...

All I knew was that I was getting shot at again, holes being poked into the holes of our cutvee.  Our men in the back were getting hit.

This isn't really the only book I'm currently reading, but it's the most active.

I'm currently "reading" three books, so you get three teasers.

A non-fiction book I started because it sounded interesting:

By another naming convention, the name of the "sire" would be ordered first, such that the offspring of a male polar bear and a female grizzly would be a "pizzly bear," while the offspring of a male grizzly and a female polar bear would be a "grolar bear."

A non-fiction book I have to read to prepare for today's Midterm:

In a format specifier, if the number of columns in the option width is less than the number of column required to output the value of the expression, the output is expanded to the requirednumber of columns. That is, the output is not truncated.

I'm still trying to decide what I'm reading next. Here are some teasers from some choices available. I'm going to use the first two lines from each book instead choosing randomly.

Kalix was lost. Tired, nervous, unable to focus, and lost.

From Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar. This is a large (558 pages in trade size) book with small print and full (not much white space) pages, so I'm a bit aprehensive about commiting to it. Not that I haven't read other large books; they're just usually by authors I know I like.

It was a cold wind that blew from the left hand of the moon. A cold wind that woke the one who slept on the mountain.

From The Summer King by O.R. Melling. This is the 2nd book in the Chronicles of Fairie series.

An oversized yellow banner hung in the corridor outside the exhibition hall: "DREAMSCAPE: An Artistic and Scientific Glimpse into the Mysterious World of the Sleeping Brain."

From Sideshow by Anne D. LeClaire. According to the cover, this is a "novel of suspense."

The soup is warm, and it's, if I may, sensual, and it provides a certain amount of comfort.  And as it vanishes, spoonful by happy spoonful, you discover that you are in the perfect condition for whatever may come next.

From p. 87 of Dzur by Steven Brust.  It opened to the page I'm on.  Food (as described above) doesn't have much to do with the story, but Vlad - the main character and narrator - is definitely a foodie and goes on about the food he eats or remembers in pretty much every Vlad Taltos book.

He had the whole picture now, Emmett realized.  "You're going to tell me that the Guild Foundation stepped in and is now supporting the Transverse Wave, aren't you? [...]"

On first glimpse, I noted that Cerberus had two cute heads (I use the word "cute" relatively) and one really nasty, Snarly one. The two cute ones spent their time cleaning and licking the monster's black coat and nether regions while the nasty, Snarly one kept watch with its one large yellow eye—kinda like a big, unblinking lamp stuck in top of a lighthouse.

I have two (this is becoming a more frequent occurrence) books I'm reading. A cozy mystery and a non-fiction/memoir.

They made that corner into a sort of sitting area, with a carved and cushioned loveseat couch Trevan located somewhere in the palace. Kelly admire[d] it; the small couch had just the right kind of leather-padded, curved arm, perfect for leaning on while curled up with a book.

Mine:

Was it D'Artagnan's imagination or did Athos's bearing become more military and more rigid at those words and his expression more determindly aloof?

D'Artagnan remembered the story that had come out of Athos's mouth almost a month ago, the story that Athos had told of the Count who'd killed his wife.
