So this week:

I'll read any other Sookie Stackhouse books I can get ahold of.

I plan on reading Fortune's Folly by Deva Fagan (a library book).

I may get around to reading some of Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities, and Occasional Moments of Grace by Ayelet Waldman. I've enjoyed what I've read of her Mommy-Track Mystery series and it made me curious. I placed this on hold at the library and finally got it. Just have to get in the right mood. Since I'm not a mother and don't really plan on being one, I'm not sure how well I'll relate with the book. We'll see.

I should read Destroying Angels by Gail Lukasik this week but I suspect that will be delayed.

Sookie Stackhouse Reading Challenge

I read the first Sookie book last year (I think it was last year... might have been two years ago) and went on a hunt for the rest of the series... but I haven't read any more. So when I found out (via J. Kaye) about the Sookie Stackhouse Reading Challenge: Sign Up hosted by Beth @ Beth Fish Reads I decided I definitely have to do this.

The Rules:

1. Between July 1, 2009, and June 30, 2010, catch up on Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series. No matter if you're starting with book 1 or book 8, you have a year to read all about Sookie. Read Sookie in print, listen to the audio, read an eBook -- format is not an issue.

2. Sign up using Mr. Linky. Put your name in the top box. For the bottom box, please use the URL that links specifically to your blog post about this challenge, not to your blog's home page.

3. After July 4, I'll create a post with another Mr. Linky where you can link your reviews so everyone can read them track your progress.

A Dead-End Job Mystery

Hmmm, I'm already slacking on keeping this updated. Just hope I do better in the future.

I've been reading Elaine Viets's Dead-End Job Mystery series—finished Murder Unle

ashed today. It's an interesting series, and actually kind of relevant to me since I'm looking around for a dead-end job myself (there is a hiring freeze in my chosen field, and I have no plans to move ::sigh::). I'm getting ideas of where I might try applying to. It has caused me to wonder about something else though. There are jokes and comments throughout the series about how Canadians are cheap. I wondered what Canadian readers thought of this. I tried going to amazon.ca (thinking I might find some reviews by Canadians). However, most of the reviews were by Americans, and the anonymous reviewers did not mention this subject at all. I am left wondering. Maybe I'll get some answers when I review the books on eHarlequin...

New Year's Book-Related Challenges

I'm doing a couple challenges through the eHarlequin community.

One's a mini-January Wheel of Fortune thing. Another is a TBR A-Z Author one... maybe this will finally get me going on the TBR explosion. I may end up participating in more throughout the year, seeing how I do with these.

I'm also, personally, trying to catch up with some series. This is something I started doing last year and am continuing.

In some cases, this means starting and working through an all new (to me) series... like Monica Ferris's Needlecraft Mysteries. Other times it will mean re-reading until I catch up with the most recent books out. For instance, right now I'm re-reading most of Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos series. Eventually I'll have worked my way to the most recent publication, Jhegaala. I also hope to catch up on Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books...I still haven't read Plum Lucky or Fearless Fourteen. I'll need to get going on re-reading the preceeding books.

I also stocked up several Christmas books that I didn't get to this December. I'm thinking of doing a Christmas in April read-a-thon...

Of course, all of this will have to be balanced with my non-reading life. =)

Getting ahead of myself ...

I'm currently reading False Profits (A Tucker Sinclair Mystery, 1) - Patricia Smiley.

Occasionally, I come across a book that even while I'm enjoying reading it, I want to just get through. That is, I'm interested in the plot, I want to know the conclusion, but I have this continually nagging urge to move on to the next book. Sometimes this happens because the book has reminded me of another book I suddenly have the urge to re-read. Often when this happens, it is because it is part of a series.

That's the case with False Profits. I want to start the second book in the series, and that simply can't happen until I finish this one. Now what makes this different than the usual senario, is I've never read any of these books. I'm not in a hurry to move onto a beloved scene that happens in the next book - I have no clue what happens in this one, let alone the next. I'm not anxious to start the new book in the series that just came out. I have had this one, along with the next and possibly the third (I can't remember) patiently sitting in one of my TBR piles for months now. So what's the deal? ::sigh::

Well, back to my book...
